Australian Police Arrest Man Who Was Planning Terror Attack for New Year’s Eve

Australian police announced they arrested a man who was planning an attack for the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Melbourne on Monday, according to The Herald Sun. The 20-year-old man is Australian with Somalian parents and was taken into custody by the Special Operations Group police in Werribee and will be charged with terrorism offenses which carry a maximum penalty of life in prison. It is alleged he planned to shoot “as many people as he could” in the attack, police say. “This is a person who expressed an intention to try and kill as many people as he could through shooting them in Federation Square area on New Year’s Eve,” Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said….
