Genocide Trial Against Former Guatemalan Dictator Rios Montt Scheduled to Restart

A lawyer said a second trial against former Guatemalan dictator Efrain Rios Montt will take place on Friday after he allegedly ordered massacres of Maya Indians during a lengthy civil war, according to Reuters. Rios Montt ruled Guatemala in 1982 and 1983 after a military coup and was convicted of genocide four years ago alongside another military officer, the report said. However, the ruling was overturned.
