Hundreds Evacuated On The Greek Island Of Evia As Wildfire Spreads

Rescuers were working to evacuate hundreds of residents from the island of Evia on Tuesday as major wildfires continued to rage in a nearby nature preserve, according to Al Jazeera. One firefighter warned the “only way for this fire to be extinguished is when there’s nothing left to burn.” As the wildfire spread, officials helped 500 residents from the villages of Kontodespoti and Makrimalli evacuate as smoke moved south 110 kilometers (70 miles) away to blanket the capital city of Athens.
