Indian Police Use Elephants To Evict People Living In Protected Forest Region

Indian police used elephants to evict hundreds of people living illegally in a preserved forest region in the country’s remote north-east, according to The Guardian. Local residents threw rocks at police while they used bulldozers and elephants in a show of force in Amchang wildlife sanctuary in Assam state, the report said. Police commissioner Hiren Nath said five demonstrators were injured during a dispute after police officers used teargas to diffuse the protest, the report said.
