Mexico’s New Finance Minister Aims For Positive NAFTA Negotiation Results

The new finance minister of Mexico announced Monday that his “central scenario” was the goal of having ongoing NAFTA negotiations end with a positive result, Reuters reported. Jose Antonio Gonzalez Anaya, who assumed office on Nov. 27, 2017, spoke on a Mexican radio show mere hours before he was appointed his position, said the report. Earlier in the day, Anaya’s predecessor as finance minister, Jose Antonio Meade, announced he would run for the presidency of Mexico. In recent months the nations of Mexico, the United States and Canada have carried out negotiations in order to rework the North American Free Trade Agreement, also known as NAFTA, the report said.
