Turkey’s Syria offensive has begun, says President Erdogan

A Turkish operation against Kurdish militants in northern Syria has begun, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Twitter, as explosions were heard in the border town of Ras Al Ain. “The Turkish armed forces and Syrian National Army (rebel groups backed by Ankara) have began Operation Peace Spring in the north of Syria,” Mr Erdogan wrote on Twitter as a surprise withdrawal of US troops made way for the planned incursion.
